Accessing websites with restricted access under Windows

Learn how to access Web sites restricted by your parents, spouse or employer under Windows XP.

Did your parents or employer block your favourite game site and you can't access it? Here's what to do to make it work:

To check if the website is really restricted, take a look at the the bottom right corner of the Internet Explorer status bar. This will only work under Windows, of course.Windows XP DesktopWindows XP Desktop

If the status says "restricted sites", here's what you need to do to unblock it:

  1. Click Tools >> Internet Options
  2. Click Security Tab
  3. Click Sites
  4. Now, you've got the list of blocked sites. Select as many as you wish for removal.
  5. Click Remove
  6. Click Close when you're finished
  7. Click OK
  8. Refresh the page and you are done. The site is now unblocked.

If your supervisors, parents or employer are frequently checking up the computer, make sure to block the unwanted sites again once you've finished.

To do so, access the security options following the instructions above and simply provide the address again to get it blocked.
