How to Clear Internet History (Browsing History)
Removing Internet history can be useful if you don't want others to see what Web pages you visited in the past.
For example your spouse or employer might find it useful, to review your browsing history. If you wish to avoid the embarassment of getting caught on viewing inappropriate websites, do the following:
In Internet Explorer:
- Go to Tools pull down (IE7) or Tools menu (IE6)
- Select Internet Options
- Locate History section and click Delete History...
- You're done. You can click Close to close the window
In Mozilla Firefox:
Firefox has a very easy shortcut to delete all history information: pressing Ctrl+Shift+Delete will delete all private data immediately, including browsing history. If you press this key combination, but no window pops up, you will have to enable this feature first.
To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Tools ยป Options in Firefox's toolbar menu
- Navigate to the Privacy tab at the window top
- In the Private Data section at the bottom, check the box Ask me before clearing private data
- Click OK
Now you can try pressing Ctrl+Shift+Delete again. A popup window will come up. Make sure you tick the Browsing History box. Pressing Clear Private Data or Hitting Enter (which is even quicker) will instantaneously remove all selected items.
Using the shortcut can be life-saving. You can get rid of all private information and Internet history in just a fraction of a second without the need of navigating the menus. Make sure you remembered the key combination before you get caught.
