Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool
Thursday, 15 March 2007

Microsoft hasn't announced any security bulletins to date but they have released some security related tools – must-haves for every IT administrator.

Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool is getting its monthly updates to keep the computer on highest possible security level. The current version is 1.27 and Microsoft says it was originally developed to tackle exploits like the Mydoom, Blaster and Sasser alongside other malicious software like worms and trojan horses.

According to Microsoft the Malicious Software Removal Tool is not intended to replace any of the existing Antivirus Packages a user may have already installed, but it only has a small list of malicious software it removes from the computer. The tool has been indeed designed to stop the most aggressive infections and to install a comprehensive protection software after the danger level has been reduced.
