Numerous Security Flaws in Mozilla Products
Tuesday, 05 June 2007

The Mozilla Foundation announced major security updates to move multiple flaws affecting Firefox, Seamonkey and Thunderbird out of the way. The exploits could be used by hackers to hijack a running programme and in a result - the whole system.

There are numerous bugs found in Firefox, Seamonkey and Thunderbird that could lead to potential data leak. All of the vulnerabilites have been detailed in Mozilla's Security Advisory 2007/12. Flaws include vulnerabilities in Mozilla's Layout and JavaScript Engine that can cause memory corruption resulting in system takeover or Denial of Service attack.

Mozilla's experts say the seriousness of the flaws vary and they can be exploited to cause only a system crash or they can enable the attacker to run an arbitrary code.

Mozilla fixed the Layout Engine bugs in these updates: Firefox Versions 2.0.0.4 and 1.5.0.12; Thunderbird Versions 2.0.0.4 and 1.5.0.12; and SeaMonkey Versions 1.0.9 and 1.1.2. The downloads are available at Mozilla's security advisory site.
