Security updates for Firefox and Seamonkey
Thursday, 22 March 2007

Mozilla has released new security updates for its Firefox and Seamonkey products on March 20th. The software updates fixes a port-scanning vulnerability Firefox suffered from.

A manipulated website run on a tweaked FTP server can exploit the vulnerability performing port scanning operations within the firewalled network environment of the affected computer running Firefox and/or Seamoney. This flaw could be used by malicious people to collect information about the LAN structure which can be later used to launch an attack.

The FTP protocol uses the passive mode commands used by Firefox to redirect connection ports. This can be exploited by including an alternate server address which may be a malicious server itself. The Mozilla Corp. update for Firefox prevents this from happening.

All Mozilla Firefox users are requested to download the latest update as soon as possible.
