Norton 360 Support - Configuring Backup Options
Norton 360 Backup Details Window
In this section of Norton 360 you can get more details about your current backup protection status. This window also gives you an overview of the most recent backups and other related tasks your Norton 360 has performed.
This window informs you whether the backup protection is on or off and alongside every item there is an additional small icon showing you its current state.
If Norton 360 requires your attention, a small message will be displayed next to an item explaining what to do next. Sometimes a Details link is displayed to give you more information.
You can view and modify the following settings in this window:
|
Informs you when backup last ran. Norton 360 gives you detailed information about the date and time when backup was last performed. For your convenience, a short status message is displayed to inform you about your current backup status. Once you turn Norton 360 backup off, or for some reason the feature is disabled, Norton 360 stops monitoring the status of the backup displaying the message that it is turned off. |

|
Online Storage |
Norton Online Storage is the online space you can use for your files at Symantec datacentre. Norton 360 3.0 comes with 2GB of online storage and Norton 360 3.0 Premier Edition gives you 25GB of online space. This window displays the total space and free space there's left for your files on the secure off-site Symantec server. |
|
Backup Status Overlays |
When this is turned on, Norton 360 adds a tiny icon alongside every protected file indicating their current protection status. |
For more advanced users, there are more options to fine-tune your Norton 360 backup protection:
|
Run Backup Now |
Use this option to run backup at any time. Selected files and those scheduled for automatic backup will be backed up immediately, without waiting for the time set in the schedule. |
|
Restore Files |
This option allows you to restore files from a previously created backup. This uses your Restore settings to restore files, so make sure all restore media you used to backup your files are correctly mounted and can be accessed by Norton. For example, if you created a backup on a LAN-connected mapped drive, make sure to re-connect that drive before restoring files. |
|
Buy More Storage |
You can buy more online storage space at Symantec at any time. In order to complete the purchase, an operational Norton Account is required. |
|
Manage Backup Sets |
This option allows you to configure which files are to be included in backup sets. You can also configure the default location you want the backup archives to be stored. |
|
Turn Off Backup/Turn On Backup |
This option does what it says: You can turn on and off automatic scheduled backups at any time. This can be useful if you have very large file repositories and you want to gain more control about what Norton 360 is doing automatically. You can manually run backup procedures at any time, so if you feel you do not need an automatic backup it's safe to turn it off. |
