How to install and use Norton Toolbar

Norton Toolbar is being added to Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox while you're installing your Norton software. This tutorial discusses Norton Toolbar features and explains how to use them.

In brief, Norton Toolbar allows you to get quick access to your online security settings, community reporting, card management, accessing your Norton Account and other useful functions.

The summary below describes some of the most frequently used tools from the Norton Toolbar:

• Norton Site Safety Tool
  This tool shows you whether the website you are viewing is safe or if it has been identified for conducting rogue activity. If a website is marked unsafe it usually means that it might contain viruses or malicious scripts and you are advised to leave that site immediately.
  
• Norton Safe Search
  Allows you to perform a Web search with enhanced security. Safe Search makes use of the vast database of malicious websites maintained by Symantec to filter out the harmful ones. Use the Safe Search box to perform your search.

  By default, Norton Safe Search is switched off, so that you have to enable it manually before you can use this feature. Norton Toolbar will ask you upon first start whether you want to use Safe Search or have it turned off.

• Norton Cards & Logins
  This Norton Toolbar feature allows you to quickly access and manage your online login cars used by you to authenticate at various websites. Norton Cards & Logins is a feature that automatically fills login forms for you so that you don't have to type this information on your keyboard.

  This is another measure to stop password hijacking by the key-logging software and spyware that may attempt to read your keystrokes while you log-on to online services.

How to hide / unhide Norton Toolbar

Norton Toolbar is shown in your browser by default after Norton installation. On some occasions you might want to hide Norton Toolbar because it adds a stripe to your browser window reducing the view area for the websites you're visiting.

In order to hide Norton Toolbar go to your browser's View menu at the top, then open the Toolbars menu and uncheck the Norton Toolbar option. To show Norton Toolbar again, simply check that option back.
